Hi guy's. After a lengthy rebuild & checking/rechecking everything I could think of I have a buddy comeing out sunday to help me get the eng. into the frame. My concern now is making sure nothing burns up after the initial start up. During rebuild, crank. tranny & rings it was all coated w/ 50w oil + a thin sheen of black moly on the cam lobes/rockers. I think the oil pump is self primeing & should start pumping very quickly does that sound right? Of course since I was there I checked out the pump & did clean it up w/2k sand paper, mic. and all within specs. Does anyone have any other tip's that may help?

Put oil in the crankcase.
Don't run the bike too long without a fan blowing on the engine.
Have some sort of bubbly beverage on hand to celebrate after it fires up!

Make sure you remove the paper towels you stuffed in the intakes or carbs before you fire it. Ask me how I learned that one. Good luck!Comment

If you have a new high lift cam you should plan on breaking it in at first start. I'm not fully versed on the process, but think you raise the rpm some for a few mins. on the first start. Do some research if this cam business applies otherwise, never mind.

Mr. Ness. No I do not have high lift cams, everything other than the new/used crank& tranny- rings are oem. Believe me I would have loved to bore & fiddled w/ the cam but it is not in the budget. Side note. I rebuilt my 86 Honda xr600r, dual carbs... a fast dirt bike w/mega tourqe. Bored to 628, high lift cam, hard welded rockers. High comp. piston valves etc.. I had this bike snort'in like a champ. I did not think far enough down the line & spun the countershaft + scored the cylinder beyond hone. The next bore is 650... p.s. I had an oversized cylinder put in to accept larger bores. That thing kicks back like a mule.. so it sits. Thought you mite be interested.Comment
