To much oil and knocking lower end

Guy had a 83 GS750 T that has a knock in the lower end and wanted me to take a listen. Started and sure enough a clunk down below. I looked at the sight glass after smelling the oil ( which didn't smell of gas).

Sight glass was full, so I took the mighty vac and started sucking oil out of the filler hole by inserting the suction hose to the bottom. After removing THREE full quarts, the oil was still over full in the window, so I got a drain pan...took another 5 quarts out AFTER having removed the previous 3!! Yes folks, that's nearly 8 quarts of oil out of the engine!!!!!!!

So , obviously, the over filling has hammered something. I am thinking a bent rod or a piston skirt . What say you guys?

    Chuck,
I don't think too much oil could cause mechanical damage. Most likely the bike spun crank bearings. Fairly common on the 2nd generation 750 engine.

I'd vote for a rod or big end bearing.

Yeah that was my very first impression too, but then I thought about the impacting of the piston at the bottom of a stroke slamming into the oil.

Goona have to decide if he wants the cases split for a looksee I guess.
