82 GS550 clutch issue
like the title says i have an 82 GS550 and when i have the clutch pulled in and i have it in 1st gear and try and start the bike starts to roll forward. i dont know much about bikes i am learning as i go right now and am trying to get this bike up and running. help me please and thank youTags: None

okay now the pirch is right there on the handlebars correct? gotto remember this is my first bike that i am gonna re do myself i have done cars and trucks but bikes are a little different lol

This can also be caused by the ridges that get created on the outer clutch hub which results in the plates getting stuck moving in and/or out. If adjusting the cable has not effect, pull the clutch cover off and look at the out hub. IF you see the ridges like in the link below, you can remove the inner clutch hub, the clutch plates (keep them in order), and carefully file down the ridges. It's not a permanent fix but will hold you until you can find a good used clutch basket or come up with the funds for a new one.

Adjust the clutch using the method in the Suzuki service manual. Free download here...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/
Needless to say, check the cable for fraying before begining.
Turn IN the adjuster at both the lever and the case end. This will add a good deal of slack to the cable. Next adjust the cable at the helix mechanism. Wouldn't hurt to lube the helix before you begin.

what are the best clutch kit to buy...not a lot of money..but i race when i have a chance...putting a big bore kit in this winter...hope the clutch holds that long
