850G black sugar in the fins
Could anyone tell me what these little black sugar lump sized things are doing lodged between the fins on both sides of the cam chain. They are jammed in fairly tight and are tapered as if to match the fins. They have me stumped97 R1100R

Little blocks of rubber to dampen vibrations, left over from Suzuki's two stroke heritage.
The ring ding ding part of the two stroke's sound is partly the cooling fins vibrating. I have never been able to tell a difference in sound on a GS with them in or out.
I think it never occured to them to not include them in the new four stroke models.

Recently bought a set of those on ebay in South Africa. Can't buy the black ones anymore from Suzuki in the US. Crazy, yes, but I don't care. Bike is a restoration project. Don't think they do squat from a functional standpoint, but don't care about that either.Ed

When you consider the pressure Suzuki were under at the time it's not too surprising that they would include every trick they knew to make the new bikes their one chance best shot. Maybe that's exactly why they have withstood the test of time.

Flyboy
Ed, funny you should ask, today was spent cleaning Jennifer's head, and I was looking at those rubber blocks, will be posting progress pics up in my rebuild thread in the next few days, will be sure to take some pics of the rubber block locations for you, as most of mine are still there, and I am sure you coul work out the pattern for the missing ones from the ones that are still in the head, if you don't come right by then.
You should have let me know you were ordering parts from here, I just sent Dale a package, I could have thrown them in there for you, and he could have forwarded them on to you for local postage only, save you some coin on shipping, and the way I know thay grumpy old curmudgeon, not even that.
Speak up grasshopper.

There are four lines of six fins making twenty gaps. The inner fins by the chain tunnel seem to have had a block fitted in each of the five gaps at the mid point of their overlap near the top of the fins. That's ten blocks.
The outer fins have no sign of anything ever fitted between fins 1 and 2 ( counting from front) and the one between 4 and 5 is not where you would expect ( see pic) assuming it has rested immobile for 32 years. It looks like only four of the outboard slots were filled. That's another eight making 18 in total ?97 R1100R
