    Question about valve clearance

If the valve lash is excessive, say 10 thousands or so what can be damaged other than the stem seals?

    #2
    10 thousandths of what?

10 thousandths of an INCH is WAAYYY too much, most of us don't go over FOUR.

If you actually mean 10 hundredths of a millimeter, that's OK.

      .010 inches??? Wow!

Won't hurt the valve seals. Might hurt the engine. Could spit out a valve shim, could crack a shim, maybe mushroom the end of the valve. Dunno what would happen, but that's .254mm, over three times the recomended maximum clearance of .08mm.

A lot of us use .10mm as a max, but that's still 2.5 times as much as that.

      I wouldn't run it.
