I did have to use the stator, gear indicator switch, oil pressure switch and signal generator from the old engine. The holes where the screws fit through on the signal generator are slotted so it can be rotated slightly by a few deg, does this matter? does it alter the timing?

Questions after an engine swap.
Hi all. I have just swapped the engine on my 81 GS650, the fresh engine seems to smoke a bit but I do not think it has been run for over 2years so I will be keeping an eye on it. I did check the compression and it was about 150psi across the board, valve stem seals??

Run it a bit- rings might be sticking from sitting idle. Any idea of mileage on this engine?
When you can, get/borrow a timing light to check advance at idle and 4k rpm- those slots don't offer much adjustment, I'm guessing 5 degrees plus or minus.1981 gs650L

I did about 20miles on her today, gave her a few beans for about a mile and came to a roundabout, as I exited it she started missing and was sluggish, she then picked up and was ok for the last mile home. I'm going to an autojumble tomorrow so will lookout for a strobe, I did have one but I can not find it, I did find a Gunsons Colortune that I had forgot I had got!!
I also found a small oil leak on the oil filter cover, I think I will leave it for the moment until I have run her for a few miles.

I went to a very big autojumble today and the only timing light I could find was over £50, so I think eBay is my next port of call!!
I'm going out tomorrow, but when I get back I will fill her up with petrol and take her for a good run.
