Clutch replacement
I am replacing my old clutch with new Barnett clutches and springs. I removed the old clutches and there was NO ring on the inside of the clutch. Do I need to buy a new one or can it just be left out???? and I changing the clutch cable as well. Need a little help with this project. Looking in the manual show parts that are not in the motor. and the Barnett's clutches came with an extra plate. 83 GS1100E motorTags: None

That clutch will eat your clutch hubs.

Barrnett clutches are made on a thinner plate and they have a tendency to chew up the clutch baskets, and hubs. Yes they grab well but for a limited time only. Better off with stock clutch plates.1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard

The heavy duty springs will cause hand fatigue also.
If you want a really nice clutch look up blowerbike (Terry). http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=212389Ed

Just replace half of the springs. If you replace all of them, you will be riding home one-handed after a few miles.

Hey Terry The money has been sent and it should be there today. Let me know if it there yet. Again thanks for your help.

When my clutch started to slip 26 years ago, I tipped the bike on its side (didn't want to drain the oil) and replaced only the springs with the Barnett springs. WOW, those springs took a LOT of hand strength. Even now, they are still a handful. Might not be a bad idea to only use half of the Barnett springs.

Sounds like the arm needs to move a tooth or two on the spline.Ed
