630 to 530 conversion??!

    630 to 530 conversion??!

    So I'm looking at replacing my chain on my GS750T.
    Currently, I believe it's a 630 (stock).

    Is there an advantage to switching over to 530?

    I plan on replacing the chain & sprocket set, but I'm not sure what the best option is. I see the 630 has 96 links, whereas the 530 has 116 links...

    530 is lighter and cheaper. Z1 Enterprises has everything you need.

    BTW, don't you already have a thread on this topic?

    BTW2: I'd use 17/46 sprockets if you want to maintain the stock gear ratio. And get a conversion spacer when you order the sprockets.

      Yeah I may have mentioned it in another thread.
      However, I don't think the 530 is cheaper...
      The 530 chain I found on Z1 is $120.
      The 630 chain I found on e-bay is $50 shipped (not available at Z1).

      Wondering why there's a different # of links with 530 and 630 styles...lol
      Guess it doesn't matter..?

        Is that 630 an O-ring chain from a major manufacturer? If so, I'd grab it.

        530 chains require more links, just not sure how many without calculating, and I'm too lazy to do it for you.

          Not sure on manufacturer...but looks like a really good deal.


          P.S. - OP has the number of links on each chain.

            I'd be wary of that $50 chain. It's obviously aftermarket and there's no brand name listed, so you have no way to look for reviews. Doesn't appear to have a warranty. The price alone is a big red flag to me. (You get what you pay for and all that.)

            Z1 doesn't usually list the manufacturers of their items, but you can sometimes guess from the part number. And I'm sure they'd tell you if you asked. In any case, they're reasonably good at not selling junk and have great customer support if there is a problem.

                630 pin to pin distance is 6/8", 530 is 5/8". It will take that many more links to go around.

                    When I did my conversion. I used Z1 for their calculations on the needed links and bought the chain off ebay. I made sure I researched the chain manufacturer before I bought. I also used Amazon for a 530 chain once.

                      Ebay china-chains can be hit or miss. Some people have problems right away, other's have plenty of mileage and no issues. I've been lucky with my 750 so far, no problems on $60 chain. If you're really persistent on being cheap, or don't ride far at all, whatever. But you're purchasing with a credit card on ebay, so just stack another $60 and get a quality $130 chain or something.
