    Yep, the 530 Conversion Kit!

I'm not ready to install...yet. I'm also waiting on the "Fork Brace".

Next week is the Earth Run in Cloudcroft (weather permitting) so it looks like May will be a good time to do the work. I am so looking forward to this...

Oh MrBill, can I set up an appointment with you again?

    Ed
Yup sure can. We can do all your installs at once. Get'cha ready for the Aspen Cash rally in Ruidoso May 17th.

Yup looks like mine. I was thinking of getting mine powder coated over the winter. Just gotta make sure if or when I do, it doesn't screw with the tolerances.

Way to spend my Friday before I goto bed...installing a new FORK BRACE. I'll post pics tomorrow since my camera phone is kaput.

One thing I need to do (that apparently I'm missing) is checking bolts for tightening tension.

I went to loosen the bolts that hold the front fender (before I install the brace) and one of them was a little loose. It's a habit I need to get into for periodic inspections. Like any method...it must be practiced/honed until it sinks in.

Anyway, I'm ready for tomorrow's Earth Day Ride to Cloudcroft. Weather warning calls for high winds but it's still a GO for tomorrow.

Fork Brace looks sturdy...I'm testing it out in the morning!

Pics of newly installed Fork Brace:

Plenty of room for the fender:

I'll test it out this weekend. High Wind Advisory in effect keeps me indoors today.

              One more pic:

I ordered a Speedo/Tach cable. My tach cable stopped working and the internals broke. OEM cables are on the way.

                Oil Change

This downtime (Wind Advisory) has allowed me to do minor maintenance. I misplaced the oil filter spring and had to buy a makeshift one while installing the pipes/rear shocks at MrBill's shop.

Someone had asked how difficult it would be to do an oil change and remove the oil filter without having to remove the pipes. Well, first I covered the pipes with plastic bags and taped them secure. Then I used a small ratchet and 10mm socket and removed the cover.

I'm letting the bike drain over-night and will finish the job tomorrow. Thanks for viewing my thread.

Here's the correct spring on the left and the one I used to do the job till I got my bike home:

                  No Accoutrements

I bought a Tank Bag so I can put both the sprockets, chain, and brake shoes in it instead of in my backpack on my way to Las Cruces. --That's about all the accoutrements I'll put on my bike--

It's time for another over-nighter in Las Cruces! I had an interesting night last I was there for the V&H Pipe/Progressive Rear Shock install.

Gonna ride on Saturday and test the 530 conversion...woohoo, I'm excited.

The 530 conversion was a NO-GO--couldn't get the front sprocket hub nut off. Bill evaluated my chain and after thoughtful consideration decided to donate his old 630 chain he wasn't using anymore.

Somehow, the swing-arm came off and Bill checked the needle bearings which were in good shape. Also, didn't need to change the brake shoes...a little sandpaper and cleaning and everything went back in place. The rear brake linkage was adjusted and now quicker response comes from applying pressure. Called it a night at 1040pm and went to a place called 5M.

Today, went for a 231 mile ride and stopped in a rock formation place; can't remember where it's at but we ended up in Deming before returning to Las Cruces. What a day! Thanks to Mr. Bill for setting up this ride. Also joined by Steve who doesn't have an account here but will soon.

Yup the front sprocket nut was something else. Couldn't use an impact cuz my air compressor was down. Put a nice ubend in a tire iron we were using to hold the rear wheel. The nut is full of corrosion locking it on. My breaker bar and 3 ft cheater bar wouldn't budget it. So Ed has to get someone with an impact to loosen it up for us, then install the 530.

I was checking out his 630 to adjust it, it would not adjust. pulled the swing arm to remove it (my chain breaker was only for a 530) and his 630 was total gone. I still had my old 630 yet with only about 3k on it. greased his swing arm bearing and installed the other chain. What a difference it made.

Yeah his rear drum brakes were fine, just deglazed them some and adjusted his pedal. We then discovered his brake light wasn't working. He will have to go through the wiring to find that yet. Told him that is his #1 fix right now. We didn't have the time this go around to fix it. Let's see his list so far includes, finish the 530 conversion, cam chain adjuster, brake and turn lights, install his spare speedo and oh yeah he figure out what was causing his wrists to hurt, handle bars now. And sometime, up grading his charging system. I look at that itty bitty R/R he has on now and just shiver lol.

                        530 Conversion Put On Hole

Here are the pics from my iTouch...I didn't bring the better camera so these will have to do. First time EVER I've seen my bike this torn apart. Bill was very eager to evaluate components of my "T". This 750 is a economy version of the "E" model.

My old 630 on the sprocket.

Could not budge the nut hub.

My OLD 630 chain was in terrible shape. Thanks to Bill for offering his 630 chain!

                            Discovery - 13May2014

Sprung another oil leak...on the valve cover gasket! I replaced it back in Oct and the area where it leaked looks like the gasket is slightly damaged.

I also see a crack just underneath the valve cover on the same side (Left). I really hope it's my bad eyesight (near-sided) and it really isn't.

Ordered a new petcock and have yet to do the 530 conversion and camchain tensioner rebuild. My bike is getting alot of attention...the Parts Bike may soon be resurrected in June.

Lots To Do Before My NM Departure.

Okay, after this weekend's Aspen Cash Ride I found out I need to replace my valve cover gasket...Again. No biggie...at least I don't have to adjust the valves!

I bought a new Fuel Petcock from Z1 and can R2 that too. Only thing I have left to do is the 530 conversion. I have a buddy who has an Air Compressor and the tools to loosen the front sprocket hub nut. Again, I'm not in a hurry to do that since the 630 Chain Bill offered/gave to me is working fine.

She's been in my Apt getting her battery tenderized for the weekend. I hit the Casino at Inn of the Mountain Gods on Friday and then an over-nighter in El Paso Saturday Night.

Oh yeah, I went to Las Cruces first on Saturday and spent some time with MrBill. I keep treating him to lunch because he's done so much for me and my "T".
