    1150 oil flow

    Hey GSers,
Ive replaced the ruined 16v 1100 in my 80 GSX with an EFE 1150.
When i got the 1150 it didn't come with an oil cooler....no worries i thought, the 1100 never had one and just had the oil feed ports blocked off.
So my assumption (mother of all F....ups) was that i could just do the same with the 1150...

Ive not really been able to find any info on removal of the cooler and blocking of the ports affecting oil flow in a negative way.

So i was just wondering if anyone knows differently?

put your 1100 oil filter cover on it and call it good.

Or mount an 1150 cooler & call it better! Either way will work. I am a fan of ANYTHING that helps cooling on an air cooled engine. Ray.

This gets my vote, by far, although it can be any cooler. Make some stainless lines, Earl's fittings, and you will be GTG. The banjo bolts and crush washers are still available OEM.

          There's a difference with the 1100 vs 1150 covers?

Just need to get it going for now, will explore cooler options later.

Yes there is a difference in the oil filter covers. 1100 cover without oil cooler, 1150 filter cover with oil cooler. Ray.

The 1150 has a restrictor that forces most of the oil through the cooler. The 1100 cover does not have the restrictor.

I have a cooler for sale that has fittings for those ports on either side of the filter cover:

put a temp gauge on it and watching for a while. It is summer down there right now so you'll find out pretty quick.

Yes, you did tell me thanks Blower. And obviously i knew there would be a specific reason for its use. I was just interested in that specific reason, hence me asking the additional question.

Thanks for the explanation Koolaid, i couldn't find much information in my manuals or on here about the differences, tho i should have perhaps searched harder before asking an obvious question.

Thanks gearhead, i'll keep yours in mind as i look locally.

FYI....1150 filter cover - oil cooler = hole blown in the oil filter.
                        Thieves.....kill them all.

I think the 1150s come with an oil cooler, but I could be wrong.
