search function not working need rebuild kit

I am looking for a location i can buy either in a kit preferable or parts to rebuild the top end of my 1979 gs1000. Anyone know of a source where i can get all the factory parts I heard going back with Suzuki original is better than trying the aftermarket stuff. If that is wrong then please do point me in the right direction. If I am gonna do it I want to do it right.

What "parts" are you looking for?

Gaskets are easy enough. Rings are easy enough. What else do you think might need to be changed?

i have valve stem seals leaking is the main reason for the rebuild but since i am in there might as well lap the valves and replace any wearable items that may be bad. the bike has about 24,000 miles on it.

Boulevard Suzuki is a good OEM parts source.

New rings, valve stem seals, and gaskets. OEM parts are best, but there are acceptable aftermarket substitutes for the OEM valve stem seals, which are quite expensive.

Wow man, you're scaring me. Valve seals and valve guides are completely different parts. You sure you are up to doing this work?

yes i am up for it the parts diagram does not show valve seals on boulevard just valve guide. Don't worry i got YouTube to get me through this task. LOL the guides and seals are right close to one another snuggled up to the valve stem in the head. the picture doesn't show them nor offer them as parts.

It's actually #14, but what's one number among friends?

By the way, to change the valve seals, you will have to remove the head.
When you remove the head, you will also disturb the base gasket.
Both of those are HIGHLY recommended to be replaced with OEM gaskets.
The valve seals are included in the factory gasket set, so there is no need to purchase them separately.

The factory gasket set comes with all the gaskets don't it? for the whole engine bottom end as well? do they sell it as a kit on boulevard? i didn't notice it

I will add my 2cent worth , I would not touch the valve guides , less you know what you are doing , you have to heat the head to get then out and in ,need a ream to sizes them , in other words you should has someone that had the right tools and know what they are doing , I had a shop do my head for$ 300.00 new guides ,seal valve job ,and set the valve clearance , all I had to do was bolt it on,

I had a head gasket replaced without having a base gasket replaced on a 1000G. No problem at this time. Of course its only been a few thousand miles so far. I wanted the base gasket replaced, but there was apparently a missed communication.

thanks for the info i appreaciate all the information. i dont want to replace the guides just the seals are leaking
