    cylinder head gasket

Hi all. My gs 1000 wasn't running very well and leaking oil so I decided to take off the head to see what was going on. the head gasket seemed fine but there are four o rings, one on each of the four outer studs which are the oilways. I followed the haynes manual and there is no mention of these o rings. I have looked at several diagrams, both in the books and online and cant find them anywhere. Are these o rings meant to be there? The o rings are between the cylinder head and the block and two are damaged which would account for the oil leak. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The newer style OEM head gaskets don't use those seals.

When pulling the head it's highly recommended to change the base gasket at the same time, and always use OEM head and base gaskets on GS bikes.
