GS1000G, what size is the big nut with the lock washer that holds the basket onto the shaft?

Yes it is a 1 1/4 SAE size, thats what I use on mine.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

1 1/4 inches is an STANDARD AMERICAN EQUIVELENT for the size he needs..maybe just ever so slightly loose though. I got a 6 point too..better gripping and wont tear up the tips of the nut as readily.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Mine is the same! A nice 32mm from Harbor Freight did the trick.
