The rod has a slot cut into it. Do I release enough tension on the set screw so that it rides just in the slot or does it need to bypass the slot completely to function correctly?

Cam Chain Tensioner
When installing the cam chain tensioner I have a quick question.
The rod has a slot cut into it. Do I release enough tension on the set screw so that it rides just in the slot or does it need to bypass the slot completely to function correctly?Tags: None

The purpose of the adjuster rod isnt got a thing to do with what rides where. it is there for just two reasons. First is to hold the rod back when removing or installing the assembly. Second is to stop any side slap play that may occur from wear. Touching it off and backing it out 1/4 turn is all you need.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Good info to know since I need to remove and change the o-rings/gasket/spring.
