    transmission swap?

I was riding around on my 82 gs1100g the other day and i thought it would be real nice to have an extra gear for the highway. Then i got to looking on craigslist and found a 81 gs550l with a 6 speed transmission. Will that transmission fit in my bike and how much of a pain will it be to do that job.

The 550 tranny wouldn't take the extra stress (unless you drove like me !)- take a look at a honda cb900 custom, hign/low gearbox after tranny, so you can motor down the highway at 2000 rpm.

The '83 & '84 shaft drive 1100 rear end has a taller ratio, so the rpm's will be lower on the highway. Easy swap if you can find one.

I believe your engine speed at 70 mph is about 4,000?

There is nothing wrong with that. That is where the engine is HAPPY.

Before you start dreaming about lower engine speeds, start planning your re-curved cams to move the powerband down, or you will really hurt your engine.

Or, ... you could install one of THESE.
