    Help need head id

Just purchased a head and was told it was for 1980 - 1983 GS850. When I received it I discovered the carb sync screws are part of the head and not attached to the carb boots.

Can anyone identify this head please

It's an 750/850 head. Has threaded bosses by the cam chain tunnel. Not sure if it's an early or late head though. You need to measure the intake port size.

Edit: Sync ports in the head means it's a '79.

Hope you are right, purchased it for the exhaust valves. 79 & 80 GS750/850 valves are the same part number. The difference between the 79 & 80 would be the different carbs. I am thinking you are correct.

Mate hope you are wrong because valves are different part numbers.

Just took out exhaust valve to compare with my old ones. They appear to measure the same. Only difference I think is a star shape beside the S & EX.

Hope not, I have fitted the valves and they all appear to fit correctly. All after a light valve face grind.

I also would say that it looks like a '79 750/850 head. Do your '80-up intake manifolds fit?

My son's '80 1000 does too, but it does not have those four holes on either side of the cam chain tunnel for the idler sprocket.

That is not a 1000 head.

Thanks all for your input, I think I would put my money on it as being a 1979 GS850 head. I can use all the valves as they didnt change throughout the years of the 850 only the head where the carb boots attach to the manifold.

Steve is correct, that is not a 1000 head, my head does not have the threaded bosses for the idle gear either.
Pretty certain in is a '79 750/850 head.
