    Click after rolling off throttle

This year I've noticed an audible click that seems to come from the left side of the engine of my 80 GS550L when I roll off the throttle to shift. It's one of those things where I'm not sure if it was there before but I've noticed it this year and now I hear it all the time.

Doesn't seem to happen at very low engine speeds but I can hear it in just about every gear until the wind is so loud I can't hear the motor anymore.

Anyone have any ideas of this has all been in my head or what it might be?

The only thing i can think of is something to do with the chain. Check and see if it is too loose. Also it would not be a bad idea to check the front sprocket nut to make sure it hasn't backed off. When i first got my 550 the front sprocket nut was only finger tight, so they can back off.

To put some closure to this thread, jbthomp was spot on. Worn chain and sprockets. Replaced them all as a set and I'm back running like a champ again.
