    Tach Cable

'82 GS850G. The damn tach cable seems to always unscrew from the motor and the inner cable buggers off. I've replaced two of them already, and I can't seem to keep them tight. Anybody else have this problem?

I stick an o-ring in there simply to give the tach cable end something to "squish" against.

(See the 8th bullet point here: http://bwringer.com/gs/tachcableseals.html)

The size I used was 12mm X 2.5mm. It's not for sealing, just to add a bit of friction. I rummaged through my o-ring assortment until I found one that would fit inside here where the cable screws in:

I've also found that aftermarket tach cables are garbage -- they'll quickly unscrew themselves. I have no idea why. I've lost several.

I installed the o-ring as mentioned and an OEM cable. Haven't lost one in many years.
