I'm thinking of starting with the essentials like the starter solenoid, igniter, R/R, battery, and coils mounted to a back board. Then simply strap the engine down on a platform, mount exhaust, carbs and run a cooling fan on it. Not thinking of an engine dyno but simply to verify that the engine starts and runs without any unexpected noises.

Engine test bed?
Just curious is anyone here has built there own engine test bed. I'd like to test run a couple engines without having to install them in a frame. If anyone has one, I would love to see pics of what you did.

You could make a nice cradle by chopping up a frame. There are zillions out there cheap with no titles. If they're shaftie engines, the 850 and larger all use the exact same mounting points.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

I have a little 4 wheeled cart I built that the motors I miss with fit nice and snug into. I have fired one or two up on it with just some jumper wires . Both motors were 78 1000's that were still points motors. never set up the r/r to check charging , just basically what it needed to run, also no exhaust, but I did have an air box and filter on them1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard
