Initial valve adjustment after top end rebuild

I had the valve seats recut on my gs850 head so I know I will need to do the initial valve adjustment sooner than the normal 3000 miles. How soon should I do it?

When the bike was new, the manufacturer recommended 600 miles.

Might have been a reason for that.

Did you adjust the shims after the valves where cut? Make sure you had the proper shims installed during the engine rebuild? Assuming yes, I'd crack the engine open after the first few heat cycles and retorque the cylinder head nuts. The valves can wait until 600 miles, when you change the oil and torque the head again. If you didn't do the shims at all I'd stop riding the bike immediately and do them. The valves will burn otherwise. Good luck
