Rubber blocks between fins
I have removed the rubber blocks between the fins during re-build should I put them back? If so I would like to replace them with new rubber, where would I obtain theses. Do they go between every fin?Tags: None

Yes they are still available, and they cut down on the engine vibration hum at certain revs.
$1.65 each and there are 18 total.
If you use parts Outlaw, you can call them to discount the parts as there minimum item cost is now $2.49 each.

Didn't we just have a thread on this exact same topic?
EDIT: here is the thread...http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...tween-the-fins
The new parts are gray colored, not black. I bought a bunch of these but removed them because I was doing a restoration and wanted the OEM look, but the gray parts didn't look right to me. At any rate, they are there to damp engine noise and not strictly necessary.Last edited by Nessism; 08-18-2014, 06:33 PM.Ed

I thought they were to prevent harmonic vibrations from creating resonance in the engine and cracking parts.

And http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...03682X13001576 Goes into detail about the purpose and end result of the dampers. Including a 10% increase in engine temp with the dampers. Without them, your engine may run cooler and less efficiently than it should.
Any time someone says they want to remove something, I like to ask them "So, you're smarter than the engineers? Why are they there in the first place?"Last edited by Guest; 08-23-2014, 02:07 AM.

Those damper nubs are to keep the fins from ringing and radiating noise (in theory). A holdover from Suzuki's two stroke days. Not sure they do anything from a functional standpoint as judged in the real world. And not to worry about them affecting temperature, they don't enough to measure or matter.Ed
