The bike went quite well from the start with only a few things needing attention. The main things were the bike has a leaking head gasket it's not too bad and hasn't caused any real dramas although i know it's something that will need fixing one day. I know it's the gasket as i have looked at everything else ie rubber o rings, washers etc around head bolts , torquing of head bolts which by the way were a little loose. The other issue was i replaced the valve cover gasket as it was leaking slightly and also replaced the engine breather gasket (used suzuki parts).
I fitted the breather gasket as per instructions and when i took it for a ride it started pouring oil out from the breather tube at bottom of the airbox. I posted a question on this site and got some replies most were either too much engine oil , Blow By or gasket on wrong way. Changed gasket around which changed the position of the holes in the cover and the oil stopped coming out of the engine breather.
Moving forward to today, 16 months and 9,000 km further down the track i have noticed that oil is again pouring out of the breather tube at the bottom of the air box. I took it for a ride and so much oil came out the breather tube that it covered the back of my pipe and went all over the rear disc brake.
I guessed it had to be coming from the top of the valve cover so i attached a piece of clear plastic tube and went for a ride. I rode for 36km (22miles) at highway speeds 100 to 110 kph (65 to 70mph) and sure enough oil is coming out of the breather vent in quite large volumes.
In the two videos the first one is when i pulled over at the halfway mark (18km) you can see just how much oil has come out. I left that oil in the tube thinking that whatever came out on the way home would stay in the pipe, but i was wrong. The second video is when i got back home , i thought all the oil would have stayed in the pipe but as you can see by the seat i lost quite a bit more then what shows in the pipe.
In hindsight probably not the best way to have tested things but it sure gave me an indication of just how much oil is coming out from that engine breather on top of the valve cover. Once home i did a compression test and they were Cyl 1 to 4, 123-110-117-107 psi. My question is, is the general consensus that my piston and rings are shot and that i need a top engine rebuild.
