No clutch engagement 79 GS1000

Hey there, so last i took apart my clutch because of a rattle in N with the clutch disengaged. I found that the hub nut had come loose but didn't see any other damage. I then cleaned the clutch plates and reassembled. I wad carefull on my reassembly and I am a journryman wrench twister with GM BUT now the clutch will not engage... the cable seems fine and release shaft moves. Just wondering if there's anything stupid I should check befor pulling the cover again and look for a F-up?

You got to re-orient the lever arm ( the arm on top of clutch cover) on its shaft- when you took off cover it spun.

the lever arm spun or the release rod spund? I did try to reposition the arm last night with no result. could the clutch release rack have come out of place? when i put the arm on the rod i have the rod turned clockwise untill it stops first correct? Oh and thanks for the reply Tom.

I know my questions may seem a bit daffy to some, but I am really looking for some more experienced advise. I've spent almost a year rebuilding this wreck of a bike and as I live in Alberta sooo..."winter is coming" hell it's already snowed here and I really wanna take this girl for a run to figure out what i have to do this winter. I am open and appreciate any and all advise.

Not trying to hijack here, but I logged on to try and get an answer on adjusting that lever arm. Bike is a '79 1000E. Mine works ok, but it was never adjusted properly after I replaced the clutch cover gasket and installed a new cable. I remember reading somewhere that the lever needs to be angled inboard on the shaft. Hope this makes sense. The lever would be rotated on the shaft clockwise, in other words, seems like I remember 10-15 degrees. The lever at the clutch cover is what my question is about, not the cable adjustment. I just checked the shop manual and can't find it. Again, mine works well, but I wanted to do a proper adjustment because the clutch takes more effort than I think should be necessary. Thanks.
