    '83 GS1100E engine number

Trying to figure out what year this motor is. It's an '83 GS1100E bike, but the previous owner doesn't know if the motor in the bike is original. Engine number is GS1100X163327. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

      factory black or painted?

factory black 1100 engine is an 83 only item.

My engine number is GS1100X-113028, from a 1981 GS1100EX which I bought in person from a Houston dealership in the summer of 1981.

Here is your Service Manual, look in Section 13 for specifics on the 1981 GS1100EX model...

Just reading the post... his question relates to the engine number.

Might be the VIN number will reveal a 1983 frame.

Yes, the frame number is for an '83. Was wondering if the engine was an 83 also, without disassembling it. Motor is black, but may have been painted, because fins, carbs, etc, are all painted black. Tried to remove paint on one of the fins with brake cleaner on a rag, couldn't get it to come off. Haven't tried that hard yet, as I just brought the bike home. Was just wondering if there was a way to find out by the number. Thanks.
