750 with 850 top end

Hey guys, would like to do an 850 top end to my 78 gs750, my question is, can I use my VM carbs with 80 and up gs850 jugs or am I forced to use CV carbs, obviously I know I will have to re jet, just don't know if VM carbs and boots will fit?

one other her question is are std. Size 850 piston rings still available or are they discontinued?

Just use your 750 head on top. The 750 and 850 heads are the same part numbers. '79=small ports and VM carbs. '80-up= large ports and CV carbs.

Thanks GSX1000E, I didn't actually use my brain before posting this question................ do you or anyone else know if std. size gs850 rings are still available? I see a few sets on ebay but what about OEM suzuki?

These guys don't have the best prices, but they have the best fishe so you can check parts availability.

I just called my local dealer and they are still available but pricey, $56.99 a set, I'm sure I could find them cheaper somewhere else.
