    Propeller shaft coupling

    Hi all,
It's been awhile. I lasted posted with a prop shaft coupling problem all to find out the spline on the rear wheel was totally worn out except for about an 1/8th inch on the face. So when I looked at it I saw teeth and thought no problem. Hence a new spline will be replaced and hopefully that's all.
    Thanks for all your help.

Apparently, the 82's had weakest splines, so if you go ebaying or junkyarding, look for 81 or 83 units

Since there is no year stamped into the splines, it is fortunate that they are different colors.

Early units are black. The 'soft' splines are gold. The newer units are silver.

It is my understanding that the newer splines are still used in the new V-twin cruisers, like the Bouldvard series.
