    Tapered Cylinder Head Studs?

I was in the midst of torquing the cylinder head nuts on my Suzuki Gs 650 when one of the studs snapped off (I did have the correct torque setting as per the manuals recommendation). I took the cylinder jugs off and extracted the broken stud. Looking at the stud next to it I notice that it has a taper in the middle of it, in the same position where the other one broke off. Is this stud supposed to be shaped this way or did it almost just break off as well?

    Thanks

That necked down stud is about to break. Someone over torqued the crap out of that stud.
