    slipping into neutral from 2nd on decel

    My 81 1100e on the last few rides occasionally will slip into neutral from second gear. The bike shifts very smoothly and does not slip out of gear under acceleration. It happens when I'm slowing down, say coming to a stop sign. I will be letting the engine slow the bike down in 2nd gear and when the rpms get down to say 22-2500rpms (if I keep the rpms up it stays in gear) the bike will slip into neutral.
    I have read that the symptoms of a bent fork is that it will slip into neutral on acceleration (that doesn't sound like fun).

    80/81's have a single shifter and no linkage.
    rounded dogs and or slots..loose pattern on the shift drum..add shift forks to the mix.
    i have a feeling you might find your vibration yet..
    if you pull the tranny have it back cut and any bad parts replaced or repaired..inspect forks and drum.
    at least you don't have to pull the top end to get to the trans.
    while your at it remove the alt. rotor and see if it has been damaged(could be the vibes your feeling).

    if you get this far and don't have a trans guy...send it to john pearson the crank guy.
    he does cranks all drive line repairs.

    added:
    there's a spring and roller mechanism that rides against the shift drum...not sure if that could be the cause.
    also there's a shifter quadrant/shifter pawl thingy behind the basket along with a wire spring on the shift shaft.
    i never had a lot of trans problems so wait for "educated" others...TeamDar is one if he see's this that could give good advice.

            Take out the clutch basket so you can verify that the shift shaft is doing it's job with the shift drum. If everything works as it should then it's time to split the cases. Dar

              Maybe there's to much wax on it causing it to "slip" out of gear. just joking with ya

                when you are on de-cel you are working the back side of the dogs -that is one possibility- next - what ever gear the shift drum is in should stay in position because of the roller arm and the 5 indents around the circumference of the shift drum-

                it warrants a look at your shifting mechanism behind the clutch - but most possible you may need to open the lower oil pan and check the spring and roller arm also the spring loaded neutral pointer
