    Is this normal?

It seems like there is a lot of play in my prop shaft. It doesn't feel as though it is in the bevel gear, but in the transmission. The vid shows the play when the bike is in gear. I've always felt a dead spot before the rear wheel starts turning whenever I accelerate after a slow corner. Am I just being paranoid? It doesn't seem right to me.

Not the same as my GS1000 or my GS850. Neither seems to have that much play. I have an engine out of the frame that I can verify once I get home.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

I appreciate that. I really hope not to tear into the engine, but at least it is out already.

Is that with the transmission in gear or neutral?

That was in 1st gear. Same for 2nd gear, haven't tried others.

Might be the shock absorbing mechanism (what suzuki calls dog clutch) parts 21 thru 24 -maybe tired spring?

I see how that could be a possibility. Can I access that from the side, or do the cases need to be split?

edit: After looking at the manual, that definitely looks like a split case job. I'm still not sure if this is something that needs to be fixed. Is this going to cause problems if I leave it as is? I put about 1500 miles on the bike since I've had it, and it hasn't gotten worse. It's been this way the whole time.

I removed one from an 80 GS1000G and the cases were split.

I just checked two GS1000G engines and both had the same amount of play. I'd consider it normal.

                    Probably right, but he said....

i've noticed a similar sensation on my 650 (and heard a clunk) usually because I
let clutch out too fast and rear wheel and engine argue.

Not clutch related. I feel the dead spot after clutch has been released and accelerating normally. It does seem I can avoid the dead spot (and clunk) if I accelerate very lightly.
