somebody please confirm what I already suspect. 1150 clutch problem

85 1150 clutch sleeve...effed? Clutch nut was loose for a long time.
Also, a friend has an 82 1100e parts bike. Suzuki numbers show the part number as the same. Can that work?http://

I think you want one that has a steel insert to lessen the chance of it rocking like that. Get the APE Clutch nut too.
    GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

      Wow, DB...

When I removed the clutch plates on my bike, there was no play in the clutch basket like that. How are you going to fix it? I'm interested.

The 1150s have the steel insert.
You can use a good 1100 inner hub. Doesn't really matter.

Sheesh, opening the clutch cover sure has has opened a small can of worms. I've found bad parts, missing parts, loose parts, and evidenly an 1100 insert. I didn't know 1150s had steel sleeve inserts.
Thanks for the info gentlemen. APE nut will be ordered. Still waiting to hear from my friend.

Looks like inserts for the clutch spring threads so I think it is an 1150 hub.

I got the hub from my friend in the mail today. Yes im excited. I see subtle differences, mainly the replacement has more material around the center. The waters are muddied now. I was under the (false) imoression that my engine was never opened before I got the bike so I dont know if mine is even original now. More of a curiosity then concern. Ill likely be getting into it tonight.

The one out of my bike is on the left.

It may still be that your engine has never been apart. Taking off the clutch housing is the easiest thing to do with these bikes and it is sure to have been done given the old clutch rattle and roll that these things are prone to. I would have a good look around the inner casing whilst the clutch hub is out and look for any signs of a previous clutch explosion. Dents in the casing and scratches in the paint (they were painted internally too). If there is any evidence of the clutch having previously gone bad then I would recommend splitting the motor open and checking all the mains and the gearbox bearing whilst you are there.

What you are looking for is signs on internal violence like this:

Then take a look in here and see what has been collected:

And the hubs with steel inserts also have problems. The steel bit gets loose:

Keep up the good work there buddy.

Mine was like that too and I found it by looking, there was no other indication. It also had a lot of spiderweb cracks, so I ordered a new one from Star racing (4 years ago) . The insert on the new one was nice and tight but it still had a lot of spider web cracks, I figured it must have been from casting they were in the same place as the other hub. I installed the new one and all is well with the clutch. I didn't notice any difference from one to the other but the looseness can't be a good thing.
I was told that some times guys would cut bits of feeler gauge and put them on the opposite of the drive side and reuse them….I couldn't do it ….

Everything inside looks good. No signs of explosions, no gouges or anything sinister. At this point I think the bike may have been cannibalized when the PO had it sitting for 12 years then slapped together to sell. He also had in the garage an 83 or 3 1100e rolling chassis and a Kat.
It was his moms garage and she gave him the ultimatum to clean shop. He was keeping the Kat and selling everything else.
