    She Swings BOTH ways!!!

Well got to the pesky starter clutch today on the 79 Cooley. Remember I had posted asking if the rotor used the bolt or bell styled puller in the other thread!! Well I dont know if this is the "norm" for Colleys, but the rotor was set up to accept both style pullers.

So I set the 16 MM fine thread in and grabbed the air impact and a few blat blats and it was off. Got it all deoiled with some carb spray and dried with the air compressor. Used the high strength green loctite on it this time.

Ya, you can use the same puller for both. Both styles have the outside threads for the removal tool. On my 1983 GS1100 engine it had a nut on the end of the crank instead of the bolt. I just removed the nut and put the tool on. The screw on the tool just pushes against the crank snout. Same tool worked on my GS1000 engine that had a bolt instead of the nut. The only thing I found was you need to keep the bolt in but unscrewed half way so the tool will seat against the head of the bolt and not down the bolt hole.

I pulled the cover ( stator cover ) and saw the crank bolt and the male threads for the bell and thought crap..not what I have. Decided to pull the crank bolt and see if it would play nice and just come off with a few gentle smacks with a rubber mallet. Then i saw it was female threaded for the bolts style also...HAPPY DAYS.

I have a $2.25 black hardened bolt I got at the local fastener supply house when I lived down in Texas.

Ya, but you don't have both earlier and later model engines at the same time.

Told ya it would have both...GS1000 E,L,and S all seem to have both. Can't personally answer for the G's as they're not common here.

Works on the G's as well. I know since that's all I have.
