Damaged cam lobe
So I'm rebuilding this 83 GS650, just about done. While checking valve clearances, I noticed that one of the cam lobes is chipped on the edge. Is this a problem that will get worse and warrants a new cam? You can see it in the attached pic, right on the edge of the lobe.

Looks like someone rolled it wih no shim in the bucket to me. I'd file off any burrs so it feels smooth and let it ride. Making sure you stuff rags etc around it and go lightly.

Cool, I don't mind doing a little buffing on the cam, but I was worried that it might be something that gets worse. I'd thought no one ever touched the shims, since 3 were at zero clearance. Guess maybe they did. The rest are clean tho.
Just noticed the nicks while I'm waiting for my swaps from the shim club.
Thanks for the input.

I made my own calculator.
Rather complex, and the values are all wrong.
Good luck with your bike.

Well, I didn't mean it like my solution was better, only that I had one. It seems to work pretty well on every bike I've worked so far, aside from having to round by .05mm increments, since that's all I could find for the Hondas.
I'll send an email and take a look at yours to see where I went wrong then.

I will look for the e-mail, but will tell you now, it is designed for the GSes that use shims.
ONLY.
If your Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha happens to use the same clearances, it will do OK, but the Kawasakis that I had used clearances that were a LOT different.
