Clutch spring spacers, are they mandatory?

    Hi.

I just noticed that the PO forgot to put back the spring spacers.
I noticed thoes spacers while looking for OEM springs.

    Should I buy new ones?

My clutch is slipping when performing heavy throttle twisting. I am also changing my clutch cable next week.

Im willing to say yes on this. Unless the springs ar elonger and stronger than stock then you would not be getting as much pressure without them.

Not the washer, the spacers that fits inside the spring to keep them aligned with the bolt.

AHA mine have the spacer and that tube integrated so I have no choice but to install them.
THey would stop the springs from deforming too much if they were twisting I suppose.
Powerful bike who knows what squirming goes on in there under load

My springs service limit is 38.5mm Mine are at 39mm.
Out of curiosity what is the length of new springs?

The springs are cheep but the spacers are not.

Does any one have the specs on those spacers so I can make them?

My 850 does not have those spacers, either.

Not sure of the length on new springs, but unless you have a big-bore kit, high-performance cams, big carbs, etc., you DON'T need 'heavy-duty' springs. Stock OEM springs will do just fine.

WOW! is the grroves machined or is that from wear? If so then they do distort a lot under load.
I would say you need em from looking at that pic.

I think your right. The springs must distort without the spacers thus no longer produce the same pressure.

                      More freaking money to spend!

                          21$ us plus shipping.
Sure 20$ is not much but it's constantly 20$ here 10$ there 30$ here ... and the Canadian exchange sucks!
But it's still better then buying at the local dealer.

or get one and take it to a machinist and spend a small fortuen getting em made mebbe?
