1980 gs1100E transmission issue
Bike has 30,000 miles. Started getting a noticeable clank when pulling away from stop and during each upshift. I thought was chain slap but it was proper tension. I put the bike on center stand and when I put in gear the bike started badly shaking, worse with each gear. I took off the clutch side cover. The clutch sleeve hub rocks back and forth when the bike is in gear. Is it supposed to do this? What next? I have a video of what the sleeve hub is doing if you want to email me. I can't get it to upload on this site.Tags: None

It's working now. There is going to be some free play without the pressure plate, springs, friction plates and discs installed, but I'm not sure if that's excessive. The springs on the backside of the basket shouldn't effect that either, since they work on the primary gear and wont do anything without the other clutch components mentioned above. Where exactly is the noise coming from? Could the dampeners in the rear hub be shot?
If they are worn down or broken like these, it may feel like the chain is slack.:cool:GSRick

The noise is from the transmission area. I checked for the rear wheel hub slop but there is none.
