Stator/ starter clutch help
I have a 1982 Suzuki gs1100e I have broke the three bolts on the starter clutch 2 times first time was fine. now second time the generator magnet and starter clutch assembly keeps coming off the crankshaft when I go for a ride I used a impact gun to put it on and it keeps falling off after couple of miles is there a way I have to press it back onto the crankshaft somehow or is there some trick I'm missing . I would be grateful with any help on this subject thanksTags: None

Sounds like the tapers are a mis-match, clean them and use some fine valve lapping paste to run the flywheel onto crank. Clean it all off afterwards, you can use engineers blue to check the tappers. My bikes 79 GS1000 1085 checked and approved by stator the GSR mascot :eagerness: and 77 GS750 with 850 top end, GS850g, and my eldest sons 78 GS550, youngest sons GS125. Project bike 79 GS1000N

I was worried when I did mine a few weeks ago.
I lapped the shaft and rotor with valve grinding paste, you can see if it is contacting all around with the paste and when you clean it off you will see the contacting area. I kept going until it looked very even all the way around the tapered fitting, it was very close right away. Then I cleaned it really well, Red locktighted the shaft and the threads for the nut, tightened the rotor with a 18" breaker bar and then hit it with an impact and let it hammer just a few times.
So far all is good.

Well it looks like there are 2 notches in the crankshaft and the magnet Where when it came loose it spun and carved the metal do t know if that would effect fitament.

Locktite makes a compound for repairing press shaft fittings, I don't know if it would be strong enough or what temps it works at. I believe its 660 compound.
