    Chain tensioner 1980 GS550l

Hey guys. I had a oil leak between the cylinder head and block and has to pull some things apart. I am trying to put the can chain tensioner back in and it will not go in all the way. Does anybody know why this is and how to fix it.

    Thanks in advance.

I just experienced this. Assuming you followed the factory manual, your cams are in placed and timed, and the idler is installed. Turn the crank a turn or 2 to take up the slack. Then the tensioner should slide all the way in. Make sure the tensioner is fully collapsed and locked in place.

You should turn the crank clockwise, not counterclockwise as was suggested to me.
