MISSING PIECE, gs 550L gear shifter

I opened up my 86 gs 550 and found this, a screw missing and a shaft that keeps the parts from lining up so I can put the screw back in. any suggestions?

    Extra pieces

I found this under the bike, I am trying to change the transmission, any idea on what it is and where it goes? Right now it is classified as one of those extra pieces.

item #44, your picture is very blurry. If your lucky and it is the spring may still be in the hole.

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.
