82 gs550 valvecover bolt hole not lining up

I have a 1982 gs550 that I purchased and noticed that it leaked oil. I then saw that the bolt hole on the front of the engine on the clutch lever side was off about .975 of an inch. Does anyone know if I have the wrong size valvecover or the wrong year? And if by these pictures could tell me if my engine is a different year or what valvecover I need?

    Thanks in advance.

Second picture at a different angle. This is the only hole that doesn't line up.

Find your engine number and determine which year engine it is. Then find a valve cover for that year engine. Could be someone swapped engines or could be they just replaced the valve cover with the wrong one. Sorry I don't know which year it is from your picture, my 550 is the older style.... Actually you may have a first gen cover on a second gen head, not sure. Post a picture of the whole cover please?

You must have the wrong valve cover, or maybe it's installed backwards?

After diggint though google all morning i saw it. The bike is a big mix of years and parts. It turns out my valve cover is from 77-79 and my head is the next generation. $20 fix from ebay. Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.

yeah could be a classic case of SBR (spontaneous Bolt-hole Relocation), hate it when that happens!

Another entry for the previous-owner-syndrome Hall of Fame.
....most of the bolts are there...close enough!
