    1982 GS 1100 Oil restrictor jet

    I'm currently working on 2 different 1982 GS 1100 motors. Mainly I'm tweaking (playing) with carbs, valves, clutches. Has anyone installed or had any experience with the oil restrictor jet that is available on ebay. It is supposed to provide more top end oil to cams and valves.

      I hear you! Thanks, I had a feeling that was going to be the answer since I don't hear anyone here on this forum talking about these devices. Tell me, what is the problem with the restrictor? Just asking.

        I have never seen those things before, but I would have to ask what are you trying to accomplish? If you have 750 oil pump gears you should have no problem with pressure. I don't want to get into a discussion with about flow v.s. volume (I understand the difference) but with gears you can peg a 15 PSI meter relatively easily. In fact I have used a restrictor to divert oil away from the engine to reduce the pressure.
        Do you have an oil pressure gauge?

          Interesting. In all my years of hanging out here I can't remember hearing any chatter about such a device before. I can sort of understand the concept, but that orifice is mighty small. That's not a little restriction that's a huge restriction. Oil flow will be greatly reduced to the transmission and clutch.

            Ed nailed it! It is a dragrace only modification to restrict oil to the transmission & clutch. Pro Stock Suzukis only use 2 quarts of oil in the crankcase to reduce windage & drag on the crank, transmission & clutch. NOT what you want on a street bike.

              Thanks for posting that Ray. An old but little known trick for roadracing any of the GS fours is to run the oil level below the clutch. For sprint racing of course...For the six hour races the full capacity was used.

                Hey guys,
                Thanks for the replies. I've never heard of using an oil restrictor on a street bike before, but then, I haven't been working on many of these older GS's for very long. I'll leave it alone and go with factory.
