    GS1100 camshaft identifacation

I have a set of 1100 4v cams. Not sure what they are from. I do not have a dial indicator. The intake cams measure 30mm @ base, 34.52mm lobe. Ex cams measure out 30mm @ base,34.6 lobe. I noticed a member has similar cam specs from an '83 1100e in the for sale section. What cam combo and timing specs would be considered best set up? Or am I sol?
Here are specs from current microfiche.

    Intake cam p/n 12700-49810 Used in 82 GS1000s,1100E.
    Exhaust cam p/n 12700-45820 Used in 82 GS1000s,1100e,GS750e

    Intake cam p/n 12700-45810 Used in 82 GS1100esd,83 GS1100ed,GS1100esd,82 GS750e
    Exhaust cam p/n 12700-49820 used in 82 GS1100esd,83 GS1100ed,GS1100esd

Oh my - another cam identification thread! I think these come up every week.

I now have 7 sets of cams, all with different markings (which mean nothing), all with different profiles and measurements and not one is anything like the numbers in the manual.

My only resort is to try them out, one by one, and see which one suits the best.

There is a rule of "Omerta" (definition: Omerta) about these darn things.

Lets hope you can figure it out. Man - I have tried.

From the lift specs they sound like the early 80-82 if there from the 1100

The Omerta on this is simple math and the access gained into the secret society that only a Harbor freight digital caliper can provide .

Lift = 1.52*(Lobe-base). This is for 16V engines

        apparently you never joined......

        Lift=(Max-Min)*1.52 keep units consistent.

I enjoy friendly and fun banter and is encouraged! I am in the secret society of people that didn't do well in math and cant figure out by the clues given how the 1.52* number is used. And yes,I read the supplied links.

The 1.52 is the rocker arm ratio. Multiply whatever lift measurements you come up with by 1.52 to get the true lift of the cam.

Thank you. They are out of my 82 Kat that went away. 7mm intake and exhaust. Bonus question... What should they be timed at for Street/Track day use? Stock motor, 36mm gsxr flatslides, Yosh pipe.

106/108. Bigger # on the exhaust. Good #s for a street & track bike. If it were race only I would tell you to put bigger cams in it.

Thanks Ray. Again! I have a set of slotted sprockets, i'll see if we can coax a little more out of her. Ended up with 108hp piped w/gsxr 36mm sliders.
