Why the half moons?
Anyone know the purpose of the half moon cam end plugs? Other than obviously to fill the half moon shaped hole in the head i mean why would it be designed like that in the first place? Seems like it's just more production expense and unnecessary parts expense (however minimal)Tags: None

It's alright. I just always thought the cam journals were end-milled, from the top of the head, not drilled from the side.
Strong opinions on exhaust huh? I have the stock exhaust on my bike. And the stock airbox too, since those questions always seem to come in quick succession lol.
My exhaust is a little ratty-looking though and i was thinking i might replace it soon. You gonna bite my head off if i ask your opinions on aftetmarket exhaust? With muffler(s) of course.

It's the open exhaust guys (or, worse yet, the jokers who cut the four exhaust pipes off at the junction under the bike) who draw our ire. One, because they then complain that the bike doesn't run right. Two, because the bike is louder than Hell and disturbs everyone within a quarter mile of the farting, belching beast that they just ruined.sigpic

Oh good. I've got a friend with a 79 gs1000e with a yoshimura pipe with open header and i agree that is just too much. What do you think of Delkevic exhaust? http://www.delkevic.us/index.php?rou...roduct_id=3497
That's within my price range and looks a hell of a lot better than what i have now. It's for a 1000E but that will fit my 1980 1000G right? Just the rear bracket won't line up as i understand.

If someone is running an open exhaust on their bike I put them on "ignore". Interestingly, I've got a fair number of guys on ignore but all but maybe one guy doesn't post here hardly at all so it's kind of wasted effort on my part. The culture around here is one of responsibility so the loud exhaust guys don't last long here it seems.
Delkevic seems like a good value. I was considering one for my KZ750 but after seeing some photos where the pipe for that application was hanging way under the sump I decided to pass. I hate that. A proper pipe will tuck up tight under the engine not hang down (my opinion). Of course this is just my pet peeve and may not be yours. Check them out close before purchase is all.Ed

loud et
Good comments.
I had never even though of why there were half moons before. Lol. It makes perfect sense from the machining point of view.
I dislike the sound of a hacked off exhaust too. It just sounds like yit.
I do however love the sound of my vintage Kerker on my 1100E. It's loud but its a true exhaust sound. Not just disgusting, "look at how bad a$$" I am noise.

Nessism - agreed but this guy has been good to me and he's my neighbor anyway so ignore is not really an option lol. And yeah i do want to see it on the bike from more angles before i buy. But the E exhaust WILL fit my G, correct?
Frank - thanks for the offer, i'll definitely consider it. I was leaning towards a 4 into 1 system though. Out of curiosity, does that cross pipe serve any real purpose? Mine doesn't have that.
