Newbie GS850 owner in uk need parts info

Hi Guys I've just purchased a 1981 GS850GL Custom shaft drive its a US import could you tell me if any other of the gs models 750/1000 share the same engine parts??
I need carb to engine rubbers head bolts and rods but don't seem to see many spares for the 850 in the uk loads of 750 and 1000s
any help would be much appreciated
    TIA
    Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to the GSR.
Some bits cross over between models and some don't. The best way to find what fits what is to check on one of the online parts fisches, such as CMSNL.

Once you have the part number you can then either type that straight in to google or use it at somewhere over here like Robinsons. They have your intake boots by the way at £30ish a pop.

      Hi Chris
If you are looking for new Oem stuff Crooks Suzuki are specialist on old Suzuki stuff tel:01229822120
      or Robbinsons foundry tel:01227454366
      used parts try http://grumpy1260suzukispares.co.uk/
Are you looking for the carb holders or the orings that fit in the holders?
parts are not cheap here in uk in USA much cheaper
I am pretty sure that there will be a lot of parts that are common across the gs range some of the more experienced members will advise on that.
if you need carb orings this is the man to contact http://www.cycleorings.com
theres quite a quite a lot of stuff on eBay.co.uk
if you put you bike details in your sig it will appear in any post you make saves typing it in on all posts.

Welcome to the forum. Yet another UK GSer. We are slowly picking up all those old GS bikes from the US and bringing them back to life in the UK. I bought a US one and imported one from Canada about 15 years ago.

Be sure to join us on our UK GS Facebook Group (see below in my signature).

Yes, best to ring Robinsons as their website does not show anything like the full range of our bikes likes CMSNL.Com does or use my favourite which is Alpha-Sports.Com. They also have a parts finder tool that allows you to enter a part number and find out which other bikes also use that part. Handy if you are looking for kit on eBay. Your part might be common to many different models but won't be listed correctly like that on eBay.

For carb rubbers I have found Everett Powersports in the US to always have the parts I'm looking for and they get here really quickly. I priced them against Robinsons (who are only 500 metres from my front door) but they are consistently cheaper. See your boots here on their eBay store: GS850 Carb boots. Check these are the correct ones for your model.

There are several GS owners in the UK who are GL Custom fans. See also the Bike of the Month this month on GSR:

Nice one. Looks like the bars have been "tamed" a little.

                          Hi Chris

here's is where I got my carb rubbers (and various other parts)

I also use BabbitsOnline to find a part, click on the part number and it will also tell where else the part was used.

It came in very handy when I wanted some original mirrors and found that they were the same those used on a GN125. £5 a pair on ebay... done!
