    Sticky Clutch after sitting all winter?

    Hi everyone,

    Earlier today I went to take out my 1979 Suzuki gs850G for the first time since putting it away around Thanksgiving.

    The bike has sat in the shed since then.

    Just before putting it away it had an oil change, clutch springs removed, oiled, examined, replaced.

    Only a couple miles were put on the bike before putting it away when it became too cold for me to ride. (mesh jackets without liners are bad in cold weather).


    After getting it out of the shed, I went to go down the driveway, and realized that the clutch was not fully disengaging when pulled in. (The engine still had a slight pull on it.)


    Does anyone have any ideas ?

    I was thinking taking it for a ride might "break it free" but I was leery hesitant to go onto the road like that.

    Some just force the issue by kicking it into first with the brakes held. I've had success by opening the oil filler and taking a wide screwdriver to the plates and twisting them apart while turning the basket.

      More then likely the discs have dried out. Should take care of it self with a short ride. It may also be the clutch cable adjustment. Make sure you don't have too much free play in the clutch lever.

        The bike was worked on by Steve last. he did the adjustments on everything since my hamfisted adjustments were way off.

          Check the cables anyway. They can stretch over time.
