Def get this sorted quick I reckon if when head
off you do valve seals and clearances.
Suzuki limit for compression on gs550 I am sure
      is 92.4!
I don't think 120 is too bad . My bike ran for years
On 120 wet test. They however say spec is 128-171.

All depends on difference between doing wet and dry ?
If 20% increase after adding oil it points to rings.

Could it be the head gasket components ?
O ring round chain guard pinched? I rings on outer head bolts.

Do as your doing and you can't go wrong but must do valve seals.
Gs 550's need to be saved !

You can still have good compression but burn oil if the oil rings are worn / stuck.
        Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

        Past:
        VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

650 head, cylinders, pistons. New base gasket, valve cover gasket and head gasket. Your carbs may need slightly different jetting.

You will need to split the cases, to hog out the top case to fit the 650's larger cylinder sleeves. Can be done with a Dremel or a die grinder, but it takes the removal of quite a bit of metal.
