    Gs650g. Plugs

Guys I just bought 1981 Gs650g this Sunday, today I removed the spark plugs to replace them and I noticed 1 of them was all the way down snug, it allso was a lot harder to remove, That's when I realized it had been cross threaded, And it came to a complete stop around halfway down the threads, Just how big of a nightmare have I got myself into
It’s my bike I’ll run it in the ground if I want to

It's likely other nightmares await you! But for this problem, you need a spark plug chaser- basically a tap that removes/restores the damaged thread. Goop it up with thick wheel bearing grease- this will very likely catch/ hold any metal shavings. Me, I'd probably lay bike on its side to improve odds of not having any shavings fall down into cylinder. Don't rush!

Torque plugs to between 11 and 15 lbs. There are enough threads where you can chase them and it should be ok.

Don't use a regular tap, get the proper thread chaser tool. If a few random aluminum shards fall in the cylinder it won't hurt anything. They will get burned up during combustion or blown out the exhaust.

I got one of these to fix a cross threaded plug in an FJ1200:

Basically you insert the tool past the threads, engage it and then reverse it out. It starts on the "good" threads closest to the combustion chamber so you know it chases correctly.

          Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

          Past:
          VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....
