Hoping you guys can help me with a "sticky" clutch situation...

So yeah the clutch lever seems to be sticking hard when I try to let it out slowly. What I know is that when the bolts and springs are removed from the clutch, the lever is smooth as a dream. Also that changing the oil (with the same brand and grade) doesn't do much. Should I change the oil? I am using SAE 10W-40 which is what the manual recommends. It's essentially impossible to release the clutch in first without the bike dying on me, usually in the middle of an intersection. Aside from it making me look like an idiot, it's incredibly dangerous and I don't feel safe riding it. I recently damaged my car and won't have it back for a couple weeks and this bike is my only remaining mode of transportation besides asking others for rides. I'd appreciate any advice on what the possible issues are and how to fix them.

I'd be willing to bet there are notches worn into your clutch basket. Many people have removed the basket and filed the notches down. There are threads here about it if you search them out.

Better than the threads, here is what to look for when you get the clutch cover off and the disks removed:



Those notches keep the clutch disks from sliding along those ribs, which they need to do to release. Since they are held basically packed together, you have very erratic operation of the clutch. Either take a LOT of time to file them smooth or get a new clutch basket.

If the gaps between the ears on the fibres and the basket are too big youll want to source a better basket. See the service manual for the exact specs to check.

The thing is I did actually purchase a new clutch basket but I can't replace it because I'm having a hell of a time getting the big 32mm nut off. Any tips? I do have the clutch removal tool as well and I still can't get it to come undone.

Im assuming you unbent the lockwasher. Maybe rent or buy an impact gun, or put it in gear, get someone to push on the rear brake and try to loosen it then.
