850 Runs much better after 50-70 miles

Took the 850 out yesterday. Got in about 150 miles in Buffalo NY in February, NOT BAD! The bike starts really well. After about 90 seconds with choke on I can take right off. Valves have been adjusted by me, about 3000 miles ago. Not any air leaks that I know of. Bike seems to run OK, BUT after about 50-70 miles and after stopping for lunch it seems to run probably 15% better. Just more lively and peppier is the best way I can explain it. Seems to have something to do with warming things up, but also seems to take a long time. It has 42,000 miles and I guess I am just looking for some discussion on this type of problem. Hoping someone can say oh yeah that is usually weak coils or plug wires or something. Always appreciate the help! Not a super experienced wrencher but you guys have kept me on the road for about 30,000 miles on the 850 so far, and I have loved every minute of it! P. S. have not touched coils or wires still running originals.

How long was the bike sitting before that ride?

You mention a lot of miles over the last few years, so I would not suspect stuck rings, but if that was your first ride since putting the bike up last fall, that is where I would put my money.

The big thing is to see if it happens again. If it does, it's not stuck rings.

Had the bike out for a long ride about 4 weeks ago. Although I did have stabil in the tank. It has seemed to be acting that way last few times out.

Run that gas out till you hit reserve. Then fill with fresh gas and dump in half a bottle of this..second half in the next tank. Cleans the jets and float needles real good. he was the last valve adjustment and timing checked with a timing light???

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
