Are these cams toast?
As some of you might know, my 82 GS1100e motor exploded. I bought a donor rolling Chassi that had a motor in it. I pulled the valve cover and was distraught. I'm fairly certain these cams are toast, just want more of an expert opinion.

If you upload your photos to photobucket or flikr and then cut and past the [img] link into your post the photo will show up in high resolution.
Rapid Ray is the guy to pass judgement on those cams. The rocker arm GS bikes are not kind to cams/rockers overall, but many times while they may not look great but they run fine regardless. To my eye those don't look too bad.Ed

My opinion is I would not be afraid of them in my engine. Bad is chipped, pitted, blued, or otherwise scarred up in some way.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550
NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.
I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I would be concerned with the journals myself over the "wear in" looking marks on the lobes..but that just me.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I've seen the same on a number of 1100 16V motors. Seems typical and not of immediate concern. Maybe a top end oiling kit could help.http://img633.imageshack.us/img633/811/douMvs.jpg
