Cylinder Block stuck on pistons, '83 GS850

Hello, first time poster, love all the information here! So, I have been cleaning up and rebuilding the top end on my 83 GS 850. Had everything removed and cleaned down to the pistons. Installed new rings, put the cylinders back over the pistons before realizing I had forgotten to gauge the rings. A month later I go to take the block off, and find that it's stuck. Now it was in the middle of winter and first thought that maybe some rust had bound it up. Tried some PB and beat on the pistons with a mallet, tried rotating the crank and only get about a 1/4" play in it. Tried gently prying the block up, but didn't want to damage anything so have been looking for a proper method for removing this old thing. Is heat the best method, and how much? Or something else?
    Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Are you holding all the slack out of the can chain when trying to turn the crank?? Sounds like the chain has folded over and jammed into the cranks gear.

Pull up on the cam chain and move the crank forward and back using the 19MM nut. This should wiggle the chain free of any folds and let it roll freely on the cranks drive gear.

Reach in with some hemos or a good magnet to retrieve the chain. And if you have already installed new rings I would just button it up and run it. Its gonna be fine.
