    Kat 1230 - 17/18 rims - 520 chain 17/46 sprockets - want closer to standard

Kat 1230 - 17/18 rims - 520 chain 17/46 sprockets - want closer to standard, I assume i am correct this is setup for acceleration? I have only ridden the bike a few times as it was a race bike. Now being setup for the road. So saying that going to a smaller front or larger back will give it better top end?
18 front and 17 rear Katana Rims
From the searching I have done I should replace the rear sprocket to a 49 is closer to standard, but this will shorten the chain. How much will a 49 move the rear wheel forward?
    Am I correct?

No, this setup is for top end speed.

Stock ratio with the 630 is 15/42. With a 17 tooth front you need a 47.6 tooth rear for the same ratio, so you either go a bit taller with a 47 tooth or a bit shorter with a 48 tooth. You are already geared taller than that with your 15/46 combo, making for lower revs on the highway and less acceleration. I would leave it there and ride it to see how you like it, your 1230 will be plenty strong enough to pull the taller gearing easily and you get more relaxed highway riding this way.
